The Icelandic horse has remarkably large eyes for its body size, giving it both a soft and expressive appearance.

The eyes are proportionally larger than in most other horse breeds, allowing it to see well in the dark and detect movement from afar — abilities that were essential for survival in Icelandic nature.

The large eyes help the horse stay aware of its surroundings, assess danger, and maintain balance in uneven terrain. They also reflect its temperament: a calm, curious, and social animal that reads human body language well. Many say that the gaze of the Icelandic horse is almost human, full of warmth and wisdom.

This unique eye structure is therefore not only a biological adaptation but also part of the charm and connection that make the Icelandic horse so special in the eyes of people around the world.
